At the end of the year 2012, Petróleos Sudamericanos Energy acquired 4 new blocks in Colombia through the Divestment Round of Campos Menores, that was carried out by the state-company Ecopetrol and Ronda ANH (National Agency of Hydrocarbons) 2012.


With a total production of 4500 boed and a level of reserves 2P certified – Reservers certified to the date 31/12/2015 by Netherland, Sewell & Associates, Inc. (NSAI) – this equates to 19.4 MM equivalent oil barrels, Petróleos Sudamericanos Energy has been consolidated as an enterprise of influence in the region.


Río Meta (Guarimena)

The Guarimena area, belonging to the block Río Meta, is located at the basin of Los Llanos in the municipality of Mani, department of Casanare. This one was discovered in 1988, starting its production in the year of 1994.


The Guarimena field is affected by a unique structural trap known as the failed monoclinal. The productive formation Carbonera C7 has a fluvial origin; it has tertiary dating, thicknesses between 15-20 ft. and its lithological composition is fine quartz sandstones interspersed with clays and their porosity is about 18%.


The field has two wells, currently abandoned, which produced crude of 33° API. The attractive quality of the crude is that the present active aquifer in the deposit and the good petrophysical properties, allows having high recovery factors at the oilfield.

El Difícil

El Difícil block belongs to the basin of the Valle Inferior of Magdalena. Located in the municipality of Ariguaní, department of Magdalena, it was discovered in august 1943.


The structure is identified as a failed anticlinical site produced by the self-configuration of the platform of the tectonics of the Basin. Its productive formation Ciénega de Oro of 500 ft, is characterized by a complex lithology of the reef type with alternating sands, clays, calcareous sands and limestones of marine origin constituted by the existence of organic life like algae, mollusks, corals, macro-foraminifera and shells. This means that this limestone is highly fissured, generating a complex system of double porosity, with the matrix porosity being of the order of 11%.


There are 36 drilled wells, of which 25 are abandoned. The characteristics of the oilfield is saturated petroleum of 47 API degrees which forms a crude ring that has associated a gas cap of relevant dimensions. The exploitation of the oilfield was divided in 2 stages, the first one was focused in the production of the crude ring and the second is in the gas cap that was previously described.


PS Energy has completed in 18 months the construction and the start-up of a gas plant, along with the re-activation of the production of the block. The plant has a capacity for 24 million cubic feet daily and a separation of liquid hydrocarbons of 1000 daily barrels.

Entrerríos block is located at the basin of Los Llanos Orientales in the municipality of Maní, department of Casanare. It was discovered in 1984, which began production in 2004.

As a characteristic of this basin, the structures correspond to failed monoclines. The main formation producers, Mirador (Terciaria) and Ubaque (Cretácica), belong to a delta deposit system, with very similar lithologies to the identified qualities which were quartz sandstones of fine to medium grain with intercalations of shales and a high content of organic matter, with porosities varying between 19 and 20%.


The estuarine environment deposits are represented by the secondary formation Gachetá (Cretaceous) which has a predominant lithology being quartz sandstones with glauconite which is slightly calcareous of medium to fine grain.


The reservoirs mentioned above produce crude of similar API gravity, 15° API.


Another relevant feature of the field is the presence of active aquifers that maintain a relatively constant pressure throughout the productive life of the field, allowing a high recovery factor.


Currently the field has 5 production wells and 1 well of water injector which is used to dispose part of the water produced. These wells have high productivity rates thanks to good petrophysical characteristics. With the conditions of the deposits, the complements and installed artificial lift systems, the wells can have a fluid production between 6,000 and 10,000 barrels of fluid per day.
